The new Black Panther movie looms over Box Office (Reuters)

"Black Adam" topped the box office for the third weekend in a row, according to Warner Bros., with $18.5 million in ticket sales. On Sunday, the theater made the projected ticket sales public.

Prior to the imminent debut of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," the weekend was relatively quiet in theaters as "One Piece Film: Red" was the only movie to debut in theaters. With $9.5 million, the Japanese anime sequel came in second.

The romantic comedy starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts, "Ticket to Paradise," came in third. In its third weekend, the Universal Pictures film brought in $8.5 million.

In just three weeks since its premiere, "Black Adam" has raked in more than $300 million worldwide, including $137.4 million domestically. This puts the $195 million budgeted movie, which is the third movie this year to top the box office for three weeks in a row, on course to surpass the $366 million that "Shazam!" made in 2019, but it makes it less likely that it will turn a profit throughout its theatrical run.

The release of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" by Walt Disney Co. is set for Thursday, and it's anticipated to have one of the largest opening weekends of the year. In US and Canadian cinemas, Ryan Coogler's original debuted with over $200 million in 2018, and predictions indicate that the sequel might launch with approximately $175 million.

With "Wakanda Forever" looming, just one new movie made its way into theaters: "One Piece Film: Red." It was released by Sony Pictures' Crunchyroll anime branch.

While not as strong as the debuts of Funimation's "Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie" ($18 million in March) or Crunchyroll's "Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero" ($21.1 million in August), "Red" once again demonstrated that anime is proving to be an incredibly consistent attraction in North American cinemas. "Red," the 15th installment in the series but the first to have a broad distribution in the US, drew a particularly youthful crowd, with around 75% of ticket purchasers falling between the ages of 18 and 34.

The $60 million budgeted rom-com earned $8.5 million in its third weekend of play, bringing its overall domestic and global totals to $46.7 million and $137.2 million, respectively. "Ticket to Paradise" is displaying lasting strength for a genre that has suffered in cinemas recently, especially as the preferred option for older people.

The movie "Smile" from Paramount Pictures was doing well in theaters despite Halloween coming and passing. The horror movie earned an additional $4 million in its sixth week of distribution, bringing its total earnings to $99.1 million.
