According to a report by the National Urban League's 2022, "State of Black America," some lawmakers, consultants, and violent extremists are cooking up a scheme to "disenfranchise, delude, manipulate and intimidate American voters and establish a one-party rule" that sidelines the interests of Black and Brown voters.

The 46th edition of the League's annual report was released on Tuesday morning. It warns that voter suppression and the increasing income inequality could largely contribute to a collapsing democracy in the US, where the very core of democracy - voting rights - are intimidated and tampered with.

The report warns that "political forces have launched an all-out assault on voting rights that disproportionately affects the communities that we serve."

"Democracy is under siege, and there's a plot to destroy American democracy," said Marc Morial, the President and CEO of National Urban League.

State legislatures have tightened restrictions on voting in areas predominantly Black, Latino, or Native.

In addition, the Equality Index of Black America remained at a stagnant 73.9% - the measure is used to estimate how much Black Americans get in comparison to White Americans in terms of economic status, health, education, social justice, and civic engagement.

The report found that Black men's homeownership rate gap has widened in comparison to White men, in addition to their median weekly earnings which have decreased from 73% to 72%.
