Negotiations on Iran's nuclear program are ongoing in the Austrian capital

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Monday he was confident that the current negotiations with Iran to save the JCPOA may bear fruit in the coming weeks.

After a gathering of the fourth foreign minister meeting of the "Stockholm Initiative", Maas declared: "I think we'll be there in the coming weeks."

The German Foreign Minister gave no clarification on the talks that resumed in Vienna in April to save the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and the P5+1 (5 permanent Security Council members and Germany).

In a joint statement drafted in the conclusion of the meeting, member countries "renewed their appeal to all states possessing nuclear weapons… to promote disarmament by adopting significant measures” to comply with the global Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

"Stockholm Initiative" member states include Germany, Spain, and Sweden, the current co-chairs, in addition to Argentine, Canada, South Korea, Ethiopia, Finland, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Norway, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan had earlier in April said the indirect negotiations in Vienna are in "an unclear place."
