US State Department spokesman Ned Price: Ethiopia's filling of the Renaissance Dam reservoir will likely increase tension.

The US State Department stated on Tuesday that Ethiopia's filling of the GERD had the potential to increase tensions, as it urged parties not to engage with unilateral actions on the dam.

US State Department spokesman Ned Price said the United States called for all parties to commit themselves to a negotiated solution acceptable to all sides.

On Tuesday, the United Nations called on the GERD parties - Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt - to recommit to talks on the dam, a day after Ethiopia began filling the dam's reservoir.

On the other hand, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Minister Sameh Shoukry met with the permanent representatives of Russia and China in the UNSC in New York.

During the meeting, Shoukry underscored "Egypt's position to reach a binding agreement on the Grand Ethiopia Renaissance Dam, and the need for the Council to assume its responsibilities towards this issue."
