During an interview with the local press, Algerian president Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed that Syria is a founding member of the Arab League and it cannot be isolated from its Arab milieu.

Tebboune noted that the support offered by Algeria to Syria after the earthquake was "a gift from the heart and was not intended for any political ends."

Tebboune said the international system which reigns currently is one where the strong impose their will on the weak; he added that he wishes for an end to Arab divisions so that they can return to their standing as a force to be reckoned with under a new international order.

Last month, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad lauded, after a meeting with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria’s proactive efforts to back Syria. The Minister praised Algeria for its bold stances when it chaired the Arab Summit.

The Syrian official emphasized shared efforts between the two Arab countries to achieve Palestinian reunification through the Algiers Agreement, which the Palestinian factions agreed to in Algeria in October 2022.

Mekdad pointed to the mutual support shared between Algeria and Syria, and said, "Algeria’s leadership and people stood by Syria in its crisis, just as we supported Algeria in ‘The Black Decade’; we struggled against terrorism and colonialism together."
