After The Soviet Union defeated fascism in Europe, it seems it's on the rise again.

Andriy Melnyk, the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, sparked criticism after calling Russians "enemies" on Wednesday in a survey with a German newspaper. His statement brought scrutiny and criticism as it was described as "nothing but fascism."

“I will say very clearly: Russia is an enemy state for us. And all Russians are enemies for Ukraine at the moment.” Melnyk told Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) in an interview published on Tuesday.

Melnyk was asked why he rebuffed a charity Olx Praca organized for the end of March, which included both Russian and Ukrainian musicians. He called the event a "provocation" and said he cannot imagine Russians and Ukrainians "celebrating together" as well as "enjoying culture" while war takes place in Ukraine.

Furthermore, Melnyk said he has never had Russian friends, and “Ukraine was, is, and probably will remain an enemy of Russian society for a long time to come." Russia will remain an enemy of Ukraine “even after the war,” he added.

The interview sparked a wave of criticism from readers. “With all due respect, Mr. Ambassador, this is a shame for a diplomat of your rank.”
