Iran's Foreign Minister meeting with the EU Foreign Policy Chief on the sidelines of the 58th Munich Security Conference

On Saturday afternoon, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian held a phone conversation with Josep Borrell, the EU's Foreign Policy Chief, in order to discuss the continuation of the Vienna Talks.

Amir-Abdollahian expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by Borrell to reach an agreement, criticizing the US' counterproductive attitude and hastiness in drafting an anti-Iran resolution at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting.

"After the resolution was issued at the IAEA Board of Governors, we showed that we will not retreat from our nation's rights, and if the US wants to continue its counterproductive behavior, it will face a proportionate response from us."

Iran's FM stressed that Tehran believes diplomacy is the best and most proportionate path and solution, adding that Iran has always stayed by the negotiating table, and that is why it has always presented important initiatives in the talks to reach a favorable agreement, "but negotiations must yield results."

Borrell: Iran has constructive will to reach a good agreement

For his part, the EU's Foreign Policy Chief expressed his willingness to continue playing a positive role in reaching a definitive agreement in the negotiations and said that the way out of the current situation is through diplomacy and the avoidance of counterproductive measures.

He also lauded Iran for its constructive will to reach a good and lasting agreement, saying that the Vienna talks are not far from reaching an agreement.

Borrell also said he will make the necessary efforts to achieve what the parties agreed on in the talks.
