Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told Monday his French counterpart Catherine Colonna that the recent nuclear talks in Qatar's capital, Doha, were "positive and constructive."

During a telephone conversation, the two ministers discussed Iran and France's bilateral ties, as well as regional and international developments.

Amir-Abdollahian hoped that the two countries will witness the development of bilateral ties in various fields, expressing Iran's readiness to promote the level of cooperation based on mutual respect.

Amir-Abdollahian: Road to diplomacy is currently open

The Iranian minister stated that the US attended the Doha talks with no initiatives based on innovation and progress, saying that “We believe that political initiatives should not be replaced by the repetition of the previous stances.”

He also called on Washington to seize the opportunity for diplomacy, highlighting that “The road to diplomacy is currently open. We are serious and sincere in reaching the final point for a good and sustainable deal and have always put forward our suggestions and positive ideas in the negotiations.”

Amir-Abdollahian stressed that “The Islamic Republic of Iran has always honored its commitments and expects the other parties to carry out their undertakings correctly as well.”

Colonna: Signing a deal better than not having one

On her part, Colonna hailed the good relations between Tehran and Paris, stressing the necessity of continuing nuclear talks in order to lift sanctions.

The French Foreign Minister said that Paris believes that the path of diplomacy is still available and should be used in the best way to reach a stable agreement, pointing out that signing a deal is better than not having a deal at all.

Colonna expressed hope that Iran and France's new ambassadors would start work in the future to accelerate the development of cooperation and relations between Tehran and Paris.

Marandi: Tehran does not take US officials' media statements seriously

On June 28, the Qatari capital of Doha hosted indirect talks between Iran and the United States over reviving the 2015 JCPOA with major powers.

At the end of the talks, the EU's Deputy Secretary-General Enrique Mora Tweeted, "Unfortunately, not yet the progress the EU team as coordinator had hoped for. We will keep working with even greater urgency to bring back on track a key deal for non-proliferation and regional stability."

Commenting on the talks, the advisor to the Iranian negotiating team, Seyed Mohammad Marandi, had said that "there was never any expectation that these negotiations would culminate in an agreement over a couple of days."

In an interview for Al Mayadeen, Marandi added that Tehran does not take US officials' media statements seriously, noting that the Americans should provide the guarantees that Iran demands to confirm that "history is not repeated."

He added that "Iran doesn't expect anything more, but it won't expect anything less", stressing that "there has been movement on the American side."

Tasnim news agency cited Wednesday the US State Department as saying that the indirect talks in Doha have concluded with "no progress made."
