The spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Wenbin, said on Wednesday that the visit of the EU's top diplomat, Josep Borrell, to China, will strengthen ties between Beijing and the European Union while also promoting global stability.

"[This visit] will give a new impetus to the development of relations between China and the EU, as well as [contribute to] global peace and stability," the diplomat said during a press briefing.

This comes shortly after EU foreign affairs spokesperson Peter Stano announced last week that Borrell will visit China from April 13 to 15.

Wang also pointed out that China and the EU are two dominant players, and that Chinese-European relations have a global impact. He continued, "China and the EU should enhance mutual trust, strengthen strategic interaction and coordination, prioritize cooperation, counteract outside interference, and cooperate to address global challenges."

At the request of Chinese President Xi Jinping, French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen traveled to China last week for a three-day official visit. Prior to that, on March 31, Pedro Sanchez, the Prime Minister of Spain, met with Xi in Beijing.
