Hezbollah MP Hassan Fadlallah stated that “what the criminals did in Tayouneh will have significant implications," adding that the targeted demonstration was "a peaceful march in which we took all precautions after the Lebanese army ensured the tightness of their measures."

Fadlallah stressed that the blood of the victims will not go in vain, as the party will retaliate by confronting this criminal aggression in a suitable way.

"The security services have pledged the safety and security of the area," Fadlallah said, "therefore those who incited, planned, deployed armed groups and shot must be held accountable, up to the highest official."

"For over a year, we have been receiving information concerning the planning of a seditious conspiracy by request of the US and Saudi embassies," he added.

A national tragedy

Lebanon mourned its martyrs on Friday in a ceremony which was attended by the head of Hezbollah's executive council Hashim Safi Al-Din, who said the victims were murdered treacherously.

Safi al-Din asserted that "we cannot be silent on this bloodshed by any means," decrying the premeditated nature of the massacre perpetrated by "criminals and murders" who either belong or were deployed by the Lebanese Forces, a US-backed right-wing party.

The Tayouneh ambush

6 peaceful protesters were killed and 60 wounded after being shot in the head by snipers in the Tayouneh area of Beirut.

The director of the AlMayadeen office in Beirut indicated that at least 4 snipers were shooting from a building in Tayouneh, where they holed up. She added that the army is trying to arrest a number of suspects.

The events unfolded as demonstrators flocked to the Justice Palace in Beirut to protest the measures taken by judge Tariq Bitar, in tandem with a sit-in organized by lawyers inside the Judicial Council.

Bitar, the judicial investigator into the Beirut Port Blast, was accused of partiality by multiple parties.

Citizens were surprised by the armed ambush as fire suddenly broke out from a building.
