Syria stresses that France's colonial ambitions are no longer applicable in the multipolar world, calling on Paris to adjust its delusional policies in accordance with the new emerging reality.

“We have recently followed the hysteria, isolated and detached from reality stances of French diplomacy, which has lost its senses after the historic decisions taken by the Arab summit of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia towards Syria,” the Foreign Ministry of the Syrian Arab Republic said on Wednesday.

“France, along with its terrorist tools, has failed to achieve their goals in Syria," the statement added.

The statement came in response to remarks made by French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna on Tuesday, where she expressed her desire to see Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad on trial.

"The fight against crimes, against impunity is part of the values of French diplomacy," she said. "I think it is up to him to change, it is not up to France to change its attitude," she concluded when asked about France's policies on Damascus.

Syria's Foreign Ministry also considered that the era in which France dominated nations has ended, and the European country must reevaluate its diplomatic approach based on an international system that rejects immoral and inhumane sanctions and is built upon mutual respect for state independence and sovereignty.

After the devastating earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey last February, France announced that it will not change its policy toward Damascus and will not provide the sanctioned Arab country with relief aid.

The recent rapprochement between Syria and most of the Arab countries was not very welcomed in the West. The new relations meant that all Western efforts for the past 12 years to destroy Syria and remove Al-Assad have failed.
