Over a phone call, Iranian President Ibrahim Raesi expressed his good wishes for the Holy month of Ramadan to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, the IRNA reported.

In addition to good wishes, the two presidents discussed a set of topics.

"The international system is changing in favor of the axis of resistance and against the system of arrogance and the Zionist regime," President Raesi said pointing out that the crimes of the zionist regime signal its weakness and desperation, and stand as proof of the bright and hopeful future for the resistance movement.

Raesi added that the only way to fight terrorism is by supporting the Syrian government, underlining the need to respect the Syrian government's sovereignty over its territory.

On his part, the Syrian president praised four decades of the Iranian and Syrian nations' resistance against their enemies. He reciprocated Raesi's point saying that the signs of the collapse of Zionist society are evident, and that is the result of the noble efforts of resistance and especially that of the Palestinian nation.

In the same context, earlier this week, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Friday called for a convergence in the Islamic world against the atrocities of the Israeli occupation against Palestinian worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque.

During a phone call with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Raisi slammed the recent Israeli attacks as a desecration of the holy place, while also condemning Israeli aggressions on Syria and Lebanon.

The Iranian President reiterated the call for holding an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss ways to confront the brutal actions of the Israeli occupation.

Last week, Iranian Defense Minister’s Deputy for International Affairs General Hamze Qalandari told reporters that in the past, Syria was "truly a defenseless" country in the face of Israeli aerial aggressions, but that situation has changed as Syria has in recent years managed to repel a large number of airstrikes, he noted.

Back in July 2020, Iran and Syria signed a joint comprehensive agreement to boost their cooperation in the military and defense fields.

Through joint collaborative efforts, along with assistance from Russia, the two countries managed to repel large swathes of ISIS factions.
