Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra

Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra calls on Arab countries to support "the Palestinian people rather than aiding the Israeli occupation to expand its territories."

In an interview for a local TV channel, Lamamra affirmed that the next Arab League summit in Algeria will be one of Arab unity.

The foreign minister commented on the recent turn of events in Lybia, saying that Algeria “considers some of Libya politicians' promises to normalize ties with "Israel" irresponsible," emphasizing that his country "respects Libyan sovereignty and will not interfere in the Libyan electoral process."

Earlier, Israeli media revealed that Saddam Haftar carried a message from his father, Libyan Haftar Forces commander General Khalifa Haftar, to "Israel" requesting Israeli political and military assistance in exchange for his pledge to establish future diplomatic, political, and military relations between "Israel" and Libya.

On Syria’s return to the Arab League, Lamamra clarified that "Algeria initially did not agree with the suspension of Syria's membership", and held reservations about granting the Syrian seat to other states.

Furthermore, the Algerian Foreign Minister tersely expressed Algiers' desire to be the capital through which Syria returns to the Arab League, adding that "his country will exert strained efforts to assure Syria’s return to the Arab League."

On Wednesday, Lamamra has called for restoring Syrian membership in the Arab League.

"It's time to return Syria to the fold of the Arab League without interfering in its internal affairs," Lamamra said.
