Al-Miqdad to Al Mayadeen: I spoke with Egyptian FM Sameh Shoukry about the possibility of opening contacts

Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad considered the United States as the biggest violator of the United Nations Charter and Human Rights, arguing that if Washington abides by the charter, many wars would end.

In an interview for Al Mayadeen, in light of his presence at the United Nations General Assembly, he added that Biden's administration is still new and should prove its commitment to the United Nations Charter.

He stressed that when armed groups were in Ghouta, Syria was still providing humanitarian aid to the citizens, while "Washington and its allies resorted to border crossings to deliver aid to terrorist organizations."

The Foreign Minister continued, "There are so-called donor countries, all of which are Western countries that keep imposing harsh sieges on our people," noting that the blockade imposed by Washington on Syria, with the support of European countries, was the reason behind the economic crisis.

He pointed out, "We have no confidence in the Western countries' intents since they are behind the terrorism in Syria and still provide free media services to support the activities of terrorist organizations."

In addition, al-Miqdad considered that the imposed sanctions led to the imposition of inhumane policies that mainly affected Lebanon, stressing that the Caesar Act serves "Israel" and is employed to "besiege countries that have sought and still seek preserving their sovereignty."

Concerning the situation of the displaced Syrians in Lebanon, he stressed that the Syrian citizens were forced by the terrorist groups to leave their country and head to Lebanon, noting that the factor preventing Syrians from returning to Syria is "the economic pressures exerted by the United States."

Al-Miqdad asked, "Do the Caesar Act and its applications encourage the Syrian citizens to return to their country? Certainly not," explaining that "President Bashar al-Assad has issued many decrees that guarantee the voluntary return of these citizens."

He revealed that he had met with many Arab foreign ministers and had spoken to his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry about "the possibility of opening communication channels and putting the past behind us."
