Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said the continued offensive military supplies to Kiev will lead to a "global catastrophe", promising retaliatory measures from Moscow using even more powerful weapons.

"Offensive weapons deliveries to the Kiev regime will lead to a global catastrophe. In the event Washington and NATO countries supply weapons that will be used to strike civilian cities and attempt to seize our territories, as they threaten, a retaliatory response with more powerful weapons will follow," he stated on Telegram.

Volodin added that Washington, Paris, and Berlin "should realize their responsibility to humanity."

"With their decisions, Washington and Brussels are leading the world to a terrible war, to completely different hostilities than today, when strikes are carried out solely on the military and critical infrastructure of the Kiev regime. Given the technological superiority of Russian weapons, foreign politicians making such decisions [arms supply to Kiev] need to understand that this could end in a global tragedy that will destroy their countries," Volodin stated.

"Arguments that the nuclear powers have not previously used weapons of mass destruction in local conflicts are untenable. Because these states did not face a situation where there was a threat to the security of their citizens and the territorial integrity of the country."

This comes as Western countries pledge more weapons supplies to Ukraine with some even considering sending in tanks, with questions about who will send them first pending. On January 20, the Biden administration announced a new military aid package to Ukraine worth $2.5 billion, this time to include Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and Stryker armored personnel carriers, sources reported.
