Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah

Hezbollah Secretary-General, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, touched on the Lebanese legislative elections, which took place last Sunday. Sayyed Nasrallah thanked, in the first place, the families and mothers of the martyrs, the men, the elderly men and women, the sick, and the resistance fighters, in addition to the electoral machines that worked for long months in preparation for the elections.

Sayyed Nasrallah also hailed the great and unparalleled turnout, especially those who voted for the Resistance and its allies and friends across Lebanon.

He also welcomed Hezbollah’s newly elected MP.

On this occasion, Sayyed Nasrallah said in a speech he made this evening, Wednesday, that "the Resistance cadres were playing two roles at the same time: To ensure the success of the elections and to remain vigilant and on utmost readiness to protect Lebanon."

He also called for alleviating the political discourse and debates in the country.

The Resistance leader added that the popular masses, the results of the elections, and the crowded festivals that were held prior to the elections "are a clear and strong message that reflects the strong adherence to the Resistance, the Resistance arms, the golden equation, and the just state.”

In this context, he stressed the necessity of making reforms and achieving civil peace, as well as partnership and cooperation, and highlighted the priority of addressing social and economic crises.

Sayyed Nasrallah considered that what is required in Lebanon is making every effort to address the issues of concern to people, through partnership and cooperation, away from animosity.

While he considered that "no party can claim it obtained the majority in the next parliament," Nasrallah stressed that Lebanon’s interest might lie in not having a parliamentary majority claimed by any party. “We are ahead of political blocs and independent MPs," he said.

He also stressed that "the Resistance and its allies and friends have a strong presence in the parliament."

Sayyed Nasrallah considered that "what happened was a huge victory,” stressing, "We should be proud of this victory, especially when we consider the circumstances surrounding the battle and the money spent in its course.”

Hezbollah Secretary-General indicated that through his victory, the Lebanese popular masses secured the safety net for the Resistance, in response to all the daily media propaganda amid huge financial infusion.

Regarding the Future Movement and Prime Minister Saad Hariri not participating in the elections, Sayyed Nasrallah said the matter "needs a calm, objective, and responsible approach, which can be built on.”

Nasrallah underscored that even if a political group obtains a majority in the Parliament, it cannot handle alone the extent of the financial, monetary, and unemployment crises in the country, as well as the free-fall in the price of the Lebanese pound against the dollar.

Sayyed Nasrallah indicated that failure to take responsibility is a betrayal of trust and a breach of promises made during the electoral campaigns stressing that "since no one obtained a majority, everyone is responsible, and the results of the elections say that the elected are responsible for handling all issues of concern and saving the country."

Nasrallah also considered that the issue of the "Mega Center" should be seriously studied.

Nasrallah: We call for partnership and cooperation

The Secretary-General of Hezbollah called for partnership and cooperation, even amid rivalship.

He pointed out that one of the lies that was promoted was how can the elections take place under Hezbollah's arms, wondering: "Is it not about time for this lie to end?"

In this regard, Sayyed Nasrallah addressed the period between 2005 and 2009, noting that "the elections were held and they [the opponent parties] won in the presence of the arms, and today in 2022 they are celebrating the results of the elections in the presence of the arms," hinting at the fact that the Resistance and its arms have in no way interfered or affected the results of the elections and the elections process.

Commenting on the lies of the presence of an "Iranian occupation", Nasrallah pointed out that the role of the US Embassy and its interference was obvious, with the US Ambassador seen touring the polling stations, adding that the Saudi Ambassador in Lebanon was the most active in the electoral process.

In this context, he addressed the opponents, asking them if they have seen an Iranian ambassador or embassy employee at any point interfering in the elections.

The Secretary-General considered that crises can only be dealt with through partnership and cooperation despite rivalries, calling for focusing on points of agreement and cooperation.

He touched on one political figure who formed lists all over Lebanon and despite obtaining the support of different embassies, he secured only two or three MPs in the parliament, yet he dares to speak in the name of the Lebanese people to claim that the people abandoned the Resistance.

Nasrallah considered that any political side that claims it is the most popular in Lebanon must return to the majority of votes to determine that.

On the electoral law outside the sectarian restriction and the voting of those over the age of 18, Nasrallah considered that it is possible to talk about popular choices and settle them according to the majority.

He also pointed out that the distribution of districts was carried out in an unscientific manner to fit the interests of some political leaders.

In conclusion, the Secretary-General of Hezbollah highlighted that the voter turnout for the Loyalty and Hope lists in some constituencies exceeded 500,000 voters.

”Do these people not express the popular will?" he wondered.
