The Head of the Ennahda party Rached Ghannouchi

The Head of the Ennahda party, Rached Ghannouchi, considered that “participating in the referendum (on a new constitution) is deceitful.”

In an interview with the Tunisian Al-Zaytouna channel, Ghannouchi said, “the country is at its worst, and the path of July 25th has made us lose the freedom and democracy we had achieved.”

He also stressed that “the past decade was not prosperous", adding: "We should not expect anything better from the constitution of (President Kais) Saied, who feels that he is the envoy of divine providence."

Ghannouchi suggested that economic and social consensus is required to get the country out of bankruptcy.

He concluded by claiming that “Kais Saied’s speech is a civil war project, and his supporters translated it into reality by attacking his political opponents.”

President Kais Saied has rewritten the democratic 2014 constitution, which will be put to a referendum on Monday, which most political parties have said they will boycott.

On its account, the Ennahda party in Tunisia declared that it would abstain from the referendum this month on a revised version of the nation's constitution.

It is worth noting that the Election Commission has registered more than 9 million voters who are expected to participate in the referendum.
