Peskov: Europe should focus on its interests and not on US demands.

Russia's foreign policy framework will be refined in light of ongoing changes in the global situation, according to Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

"Our foreign policy documents, of course, are undergoing changes. You know that just a week ago, at the operational meeting of the permanent members of the Security Council, the main outlines of our new foreign policy concept were considered. And it will be revised, taking into account what is happening now. In this regard, the situation is not static," Peskov explained.

He believes that the efficiency of disarmament negotiations is debatable and that such talks will take years.

"In terms of disarmament, everything is not so good and it is obvious that many years of difficult positional confrontations await us in the course of the negotiations, the effectiveness of which is questionable," Peskov said.

US influence over the world

The US has always tried to sway European partners, but Moscow believes that common sense will triumph in Europe and that it will consider its own interests, according to a Kremlin Spokesperson.

"... Europeans are desperately trying to increase the EU's foreign policy role in world affairs. It’s not quite working out. First, the influence of Washington is still very strong. The United States has never experienced a lack of perseverance and even somewhat of a cowboy approach in trying to influence its partners in Europe, they bluntly state who should do what, and if someone does not agree with this, they directly say what will come for that. So it has been and continues to be so. And we are well aware of this," he said.

According to Peskov, such reliance obstructs Europe's aspirations to become more independent in foreign policy.

"But let's hope all the same that common sense will prevail here and that Europeans will, first of all, think about our common home, about Europe, where we live side by side and are direct neighbors," Peskov told Sputnik.

Russia's security guarantees proposals

On Russia's security guarantees, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said his country has not received direct answers to its proposals as the West prefers to focus on secondary issues but Russian President Vladimir Putin will keep insisting that Moscow’s ideas are not ignored.

"Putin is very consistent in his approach to our, well, I want to say, partners, but, unfortunately, they are now more opponents than partners. He is straightforward when he asks questions and expects direct answers," Peskov said.

The spokesperson mentioned that Russia sees attempts to focus on secondary issues in security negotiations.

"I have no doubt that President Putin will continue to be consistent in his position and will insist that those issues that are actually existential issues for us, so that these issues are not left without attention and are not ignored," Peskov stressed.
