Which Democratic candidates are most likely to run for the 2024 Presidency? The Hill published on Sunday a list of candidates who are most likely to do so.

The recent turnout at the midterm elections revealed some serious divisions within the American society.

Democrats nonetheless emerged victorious as they performed much more strongly than expected.

All of that is very good news for President Biden, who emerges in a stronger position to run for reelection.

Earlier today, Biden stated that he is optimistic about his remaining in office since the Democratic Party was able to keep control of the Senate, adding that he was now in a stronger position to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

It is therefore no wonder that the first potential contestant for the 2024 presidency is none other than Joe Biden himself.

It is common for sitting presidents to be nominated by their parties for reelection.

But as the President will be turning 80 next year, with rumors of him suffering from dementia and experiencing a series of gaffes, it is unlikely that he may be nominated by his party.

Moreover, Biden's popularity has been on a downward trajectory due to the surge in prices and his "for as long as it takes" sponsoring of Ukraine.

During the midterms, many considered Biden to be a "drag" on Democrats, as candidates faced economic and political headwinds to hold onto power in Washington DC.

But Biden and his party did nonetheless avoid the "red wave" that many had predicted his party would suffer from and had the best midterm for the president's party since 1950.

"His prospects for 2024 are probably the best they’ve been throughout his presidency," one Democratic strategist said. "He can make the argument that voters largely agree with him and his brand of politics, and he’s not wrong."

When asked if he would run for the elections again this week, Biden said yes.

“But I’m a great respecter of fate, and this is ultimately a family decision,” he said at a news conference at the White House on Wednesday.

Although several Dems do not believe he's the right fit for 2024 and the exit polls showed that two-thirds of voters don't want him for a re-run, Biden made it clear that if former President Trump is the GOP nominee, he would beat him again.

The 80-year-old man told reporters on Wednesday, "Watch me" after a reporter asked what his message is to those who don’t want him to run again.

Earlier this week, he announced that he will decide by early next year if he would want to be reelected or not.

Vice President Kamala Harris

The second potential contestant listed by The Hill is Vice President Kamala Harris.

As soon as she assumed her VP duties, Harris was met with challenging conditions and still struggles to gather high approval rates, but many believe she would be the go-to if Biden was taken off the list.

Many believe her portfolio is not strong enough to support her entry to the run.

“I think if she ran, she would be challenged by other Democrats,” one strategist said. “There are lots of people who still think she wouldn’t beat a Trump or DeSantis.”

Still, Harris is clearly the favorite to be the Democratic standard-bearer after Biden, and the midterm results only strengthened her.

Harris has often been referred to as a "cop" on social media for pardoning police brutality.

Pete Buttigieg

The Transportation Secretary is third on the line as he was able to "stay above the fray" with publicly high approval ratings.

As one of the most requested surrogates on the trail, “He got to appear in front of voters and take some credit for all the movement on infrastructure happening in communities all over the country,” one strategist said.

“Win-win for him.”

Buttigieg has been accused several times of covering corruption and committing acts of corruption.

Gretchen Whitmer

Fourth in line is Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer who won a second four-year term in the election, defeating Republican challenger Tudor Dixon in the battleground state where abortion had become a key issue.

Whitmer spent millions on ads attacking Dixon for being too “extreme” on abortion, which went unanswered for months as her Republican opponent struggled to fundraise. Dixon opposes the procedure in all cases except to save the life of the mother.

She was a finalist to be Biden’s running vice president in 2020.

“She was a rising star in 2020 but even more so now,” one Democratic consultant said.

She is often accused of destroying the economy and putting many people out of work.

Gavin Newsom

Finally, California governor Gavin Newsom has 'something similar' to DeSantis.

His frequent use of "freedom" in his state earned him a good reputation among GOP voters as well.

Many Democrats consider him to be a good match against DeSantis and other GOP candidates.

He was also quite favored due to his pro-choice stance.

“He’s perceived as strong and he’s done well keeping his name in the press,” the first strategist said. “Keeping your name out there is half the battle.”

He is likewise known for committing acts of fraud and corruption.
