Russian President Vladimir Putin with his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi that both leaders are in constant communication on security issues and the Syrian file.

During the meeting, Putin stressed that Moscow and Tehran's relations are strategic and deep in nature, pointing to the growth of trade between the Russia and Iran last year and in the first months of 2022.

Commenting on the results of the Caspian Summit, the Russian President said the participants agreed to take steps to establish cooperation in mainly advanced industry and technology.

Putin considered that the West's call for the continuation of the war in Ukraine is clear proof that its goal is to protect its own interests, not Ukraine's.

He also added that Russia does not have problems with Finland and Sweden similar to the ones with Ukraine.

Raisi: Nothing will stop development of trade relations with Russia

On his part, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi pointed out that the Russian-Iranian trade relations are developing, stressing that nothing will stand in their way.

Raisi said the agreements that the two countries have reached are under implementation, highlighting that the cooperation between Russia and Iran in the Caspian Sea region is an important aspect of bilateral cooperation.

Earlier, Raisi stressed that "cooperation among Caspian Sea littoral countries has become increasingly important amid international developments."

He also expressed his country's readiness for comprehensive cooperation with Turkmenistan on the basis of respect and mutual benefit, expressing Iran's willingness to hold the 7th Caspian Sea littoral states forum.

It is noteworthy that the leaders of the Caspian Sea nations met Wednesday in Turkmenistan's capital, Ashgabat, and agreed to use the Caspian Sea for peaceful purposes and to provide security in the region.
