Hizam al-Assad, a member of the Political Bureau of Yemen's Ansar Allah movement, stated on Sunday that peace talks with Saudi Arabia are progressing in a positive light with Omani mediation and without the involvement of the United Nations.

Al-Assad told Sputnik that "peace talks between Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni delegation will be the final rounds held in Riyadh."

"The talks are being conducted through Omani mediation, completely away from any role for the United Nations, which unfortunately played a negative and exacerbating role throughout the eight years of aggression and blockade on Yemen," al-Assad said.

The Minister of Information in the Sanaa government, Daifallah al-Shami, confirmed on Friday to Al Mayadeen that the Sanaa delegation's visit to Riyadh was not on account of a Saudi invitation, but rather through Omani mediation.

Al-Shami indicated that the visit to Riyadh was a gesture of goodwill by Sanaa.

He pointed out that the Saudis were informed before the delegation's visit to Riyadh that this round of negotiations, which was held in Muscat, could be the last.

Al-Shami revealed that the circumstances surrounding Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman’s visit to Muscat indicate that he was the one who asked Oman to take the initiative regarding the Sanaa delegation's visit to Riyadh.
