The Iranian people are feeling the impact of the sanctions, Tehran's Ambassador to the United Nations said Tuesday at the conclusion of a UN Security Council session.

Ambassador Majid Takht Ravanchi asserted that the Iranian people would gain nothing from a nuclear agreement unless all of Tehran's conditions were implemented.

Highlighting that Washington's sanctions on Tehran amounted to "economic terrorism", Takht Ravanchi said Iran continues its remedial measures under the JCPOA. "Our steps are completely reversible. We are continuing our remedial measures concurrent with the Vienna Talks," he declared, explaining that these measures are necessary due to the fact that other parties are not fulfilling their obligations while sanctions are still in full force.

"Nevertheless, as soon as other parties implement all their obligations in a full, effective, and verifiable manner, Iran will immediately reverse its measures in full," he clarified.

"Conversely, the sufferings of our people due to the non-performance of other parties of their obligations, particularly those resulting from the re-imposition of the US illegal sanctions, are almost absolutely irreversible," Iran's envoy asserted.

The Ambassador underlined that the Vienna Talks could work through fruitful negotiations, noting that reaching a good agreement as soon as possible was highly important.

"We have demonstrated our genuine political will, seriousness, and constructive engagement with our interlocutors to arrive at a good agreement as soon as possible."

EU ambassadors urge Biden to lift sanctions on Iran

Olof Skoog, Head of the EU delegation at the UN, called on US President Joe Biden to lift sanctions on Iran, clarifying that Washington refusing to implement the nuclear agreement had massive economic repercussions on Iran.

The situation needs progress in the nuclear talks to dispel fears, Skoog noted, urging the parties to the agreement to reverse their threats and militarism.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the seventh round of the Vienna Talks and called for the removal of US sanctions on Tehran under the 2015 nuclear deal and Security Council Resolution 2231.

In his 12th report to the UN Security Council, Guterres urged speeding up the negotiations to ensure the return of all parties to the nuclear deal and their commitments. The United States should end its unilateral sanctions against Iran to ensure the economic benefits of the JCPOA for the country, he stressed.

In this context, US Envoy to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said the US is "fully prepared" to lift sanctions and reach an agreement with Iran on the condition that the latter adheres to it.

On Tuesday, the Head of Iran's negotiating delegation in Vienna, Ali Bagheri Kani, insisted that all sanctions imposed on Iran during the Trump and Obama administrations must be lifted, highlighting the failure of other parties to engage in earnest negotiations to lift the sanctions as a gesture of good faith toward Iran.
