Stella Assange: Representations to be filed to block extradition

Stella Assange, Julian Assange's wife, stated on Tuesday that representations will be lodged with UK Home Secretary Priti Patel to prevent his extradition to the United States.

Stella Assange tweeted that representations were about to be filed to ask for the blocking of the extradition.

His wife urged the British government not to sign the extradition order to the US in April, stressing that Julian's fate will have repercussions in Europe.

Last month, a UK court issued a formal order to extradite Julian Assange to face trial in the United States for publicizing 500,000 secret military files which expose US war crimes in Iraq, Afghanistan, and beyond.

The founder of Wikileaks can face up to 175 years in prison if extradited.

A defense lawyer of Assange argued that the US promises that Assange would not be subjected to harsh prison conditions if extradited were not enough to address concerns regarding his fragile mental health and high risk of suicide.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova commented on the decision last month, calling it a "shameful farce".

According to Zakharova, the Westminster Court "actually performed the final scene in a farce called 'British Justice.'"

She added, "In the worst tradition of England, everything is done on time - 'on the sly,' when the international community is completely led by the Western media into a different reality."

"And in this very state, in principle, everything is possible, and even Assange being extradited to the United States, despite the demands of human rights activists. The aim always justifies the means for the Western community."
