Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors: A protester was shot dead in Omdurman (AFP)

Today, Saturday, Sudanese security forces fired tear gas at demonstrators opposing the decisions of the army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, in Khartoum and Omdurman.

The Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors said that "a protester was shot dead in Omdurman." Reuters quoted witnesses as saying that the security forces chased the protesters in the side streets in Omdurman, where anti-coup rallies were held.

The government had anticipated the demonstrations by deploying members of the Rapid Support Forces in the streets and closing vital roads.

Nowadays, Sudan is witnessing an unprecedented security alert ahead of demonstrations called for by the popular committees and coordination groups to protest the measures taken by al-Burhan and the formation of the new sovereign council.

Earlier, the Sudanese Professionals Association called for a peaceful million-strong protest today in rejection of the appointment of the military council following the coup in Sudan.

The Association declared through a tweet that Abdel Fattah al-Burhan's formation of a Sovereignty Council under his leadership, alongside members of the Islamic movement and the National Congress, is a "clear betrayal of the principles of the glorious December revolution and its martyrs."
