The US newspaper The Hill reported that the circles of the two parties, the Democratic and the Republican, are deeply concerned about the return of former US President Donald Trump to the political arena and his candidacy for the presidency again.

A Democratic pollster, Rachel Bitecofer, warned that the prospect of him winning, not to mention his strong presence among his base, should not be taken for granted. “There's not a strategist or insider that I'm hanging out with who would like to see Donald Trump running again,” she said.

She explained that he almost re-won the elections in 2020 despite four years of ongoing scandals, heightened by the pandemic and its mismanagement, yet “that never affected him. And he almost won and his party picked up seats in the House,” she stressed.

Mike Morey, the Democratic strategist who served as an aide to Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer warned that “no one should underestimate his ability to energize the base with grievance politics,” adding that “Democrats would be foolish to think he would be easy to take down.”

GOP strategists say that Trump’s enthusiasm to announce a new bid has been encouraged by the poor polling of President Biden in recent weeks, following a messy withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan that he is even criticized by members of the Democratic Party.

Earlier, an opinion poll conducted by the University of Virginia Center for Politics revealed that 52% of Trump’s base thinks it’s time to split the country, favoring blue/red states seceding from the Federal Union.

Moreover, a poll conducted by AP-NORC revealed a decline in the popularity of President Biden in the United States and elsewhere, following the salvo of crises his administration is undergoing.
