According to Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, US corporations control the internet to ensure global dominance.

During the BRICS meeting of high representatives in charge of security issues in South Africa on Monday, the Secretary added that BRICS needs to move toward internationalization of internet governance.

Patrushev said at the BRICS meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, as quoted by the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper, that Internet dominance "remains effectively under the sole control of American corporations. Through this monopoly of Internet regulation, the US is furthering its neo-colonial claims to global dominance."

He went on to express that it was critical for the BRICS and their allies to move "toward the internationalization of the management of the global network, increasing the representation and role of developing states in these processes."

The official also added that US intel agencies are "actively involved" with Ukrainian hacker groups in cyberattacks on Russia.

Patrushev further elaborated that those responsible for planning and conducting attacks under the Ukrainian flag involve "The Pentagon Cyber Command, the National Security Agency and the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence."

According to the official, the US also directly oversees the activity of departments of the Ukrainian Centre for Information and Psychological Operations.
