In a recent session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Dr. Al-Hakam Dandi, Deputy Permanent Representative of Syria to the United Nations, revealed that US occupation forces in the country have supplied terrorists in Al-Tanf with chemical weapons and have even trained them on their usage.

According to Dandi, the intention behind this act was to orchestrate a fabricated incident of chemical weapons use to frame the Syrian Arab Army. The official pointed to the deliberate monthly meetings on the so-called "Syrian chemical file", in spite of the absence of any new developments or evidence that suggest the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

Dandi said this raises suspicions of a concerted effort to provide opportunities for certain well-known states to repeatedly level baseless accusations against Syria.

The statement comes in a clear reference to the United States and its allies who have sought to pin the alleged use of chemical weapons on the Syrian government to justify their occupation of the country, as well as their support to terrorist organizations in Syria and the collective punishment of the Syrian people under unilateral sanctions.

Furthermore, emphasizing Syria's unequivocal stance against the use of chemical weapons under any circumstances, Dandi asserted, "Syria condemns any use of chemical weapons anywhere, anytime, and by any party."

He further called upon all concerned parties to collaborate in rectifying the course of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and liberating it from the grip of misinformation, politicization, and polarization.

Dr. Dandi expressed Syria's regret and concern regarding the disregard shown by certain states toward the genuine cooperation between Syria and the Technical Secretariat of the OPCW. He also voiced disapproval of the Secretariat's inclination towards a politicized approach biased in favor of Western states.

UNSC; an anti-Syria platform

Earlier in May, Dmitry Polyansky, Russia's first deputy representative to the UN, urged the US and its allies to refrain from using the UN Security Council as an anti-Syria platform.

During a UNSC meeting, Polyansky said, "The Security Council should not become a platform for promoting an anti-Syrian line promoted by the US and its allies. Simply talking about the [OPCW] Director General's reports time and time again, especially as the Director General is not in the room, seems pointless."

The aim of the meeting was to resolve disagreements between the OPCW and the Syrian government over the eradication of chemical weapons in the nation. A Chinese envoy requested that the UN Security Council members "reduce the frequency" of meetings over the Syrian problem during the meeting in order to improve the effectiveness of the body's operations.

In a similar statement, Ghasaq Shaheen, the political coordinator for the United Arab Emirates at the UN, stated at the meeting that the UN Security Council should assess the efficiency of its ongoing discussions of Syria in light of the lack of substantive progress and urged convening sessions every three months.
