Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a UN Security Council meeting on Monday stated that the US "has taken the path of destroying globalization" in a "desperate attempt" to preserve its "domination".

Lavrov proclaimed that the US carried out multiple attempts to prove to the world that it remains the leading power of the global world order by "punishing those unsubmissive" and has used the International Monetary Fund as a tool to do so.

"Now, clearly and openly the International Monetary Fund has morphed into a tool for the achievement of the goals of the United States and their allies, including goals of military nature," Lavrov stated.

Significantly, Lavrov highlighted that the world has once "again" reached a stage that prevailed in the Cold War, which is the "dangerous, possibly even more dangerous threshold."

According to the Russian Foreign Minister, the "Ukrainian issue" was not a separate issue but rather must be fitted into the geopolitical context.

“We can not consider the Ukrainian issue separately from the geopolitical context and [the] multilateralism that provides respect for the United Nations Charter in all inter-linkages of its principles,” Lavrov said.

Russian FM Lavrov arrives in New York

Earlier, Maria Zakharova announced that Lavrov had arrived in New York on Sunday evening.

In a Telegram post on Sunday night, the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson confirmed that Lavrov arrived in New York's capital and stated a UN Security Council meeting would take place under his chairmanship on Monday.

In a subsequent post, Zakharova stated that about three million people tracked Lavrov's trip from Moscow to New York on the Flightradar tracking website, a new "record".

It is worth noting that Farhan Haq, the UN Secretary General's Deputy Spokesperson, did not comment on Sunday on the US rejection to issue visas to Russian journalists who were meant to follow Foreign Minister Lavrov to the UN Security Council.

Moscow condemned Washington's decision not to provide visas to the journalists, claiming that the US had broken its promises to preserve free expression.
