In an exemplary ode to the late renowned Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, Palestinian musician and director Nabil Azar takes audiences on a powerful 90-minute journey through Darwish’s life in the play The Lover, named after one of his iconic poems. The performance follows Darwish’s life from the Palestinian village of al-Birwa to the refugee camps of Lebanon, then on to Beirut, Paris, and finally Ramallah. Director Nabil Azar crafted the show to be more than just a biographical account, embedding Darwish’s poetic texts within their historical and political context while delving into the profound emotions and messages that define his work.
